CASE STUDIES

Working closely with FM teams to maintain the integrity of pipework using composite repairs

About the project

Integrity issue

For large integrity campaigns off-shore, e.g. fire water mains system, where it is expected to find a significant number of defects within the piping system then an alternative to the usual way of working, i.e. specific mobilisation of technicians  and materials may not be the quickest and most cost effective means of resolving the problem. One alternative is to embed ECS technicians within the FM Team, along with storing repair materials and consumables off-shore. This can lead to a rapid turn around in identification, assessment and repair of any defect. It also becomes a more cost effective means for managing the integrity of the pipework

Advantages

  • Immediate identification of whether a defect can be repaired using a composite repair
  • Rapid turnaround in design
  • Installation is performed immediately after repair design approval
  • Cost and time effective when many defects are discovered for maintaining system integrity.

Summary

An example of this approach has been on an offshore platform where there was a campaign to restore the integrity of the fire water mains system. At all times 2 ECS technicians were embedded into the FM team. The project started 12 months ago and to date 30 composite repairs have been applied. The success of this project lad the Operator to use the same approach on a different offshore platform with a similar integrity issue.
